Concordia St. Paul Continues Portland Accelerated Nursing Program

Amid the closing of Concordia University-Portland (CUP), Concordia University, St. Paul (CSP) stepped in to continue the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program that CUP launched in 2016. Today, the program remains strong, with 152 new students in the summer 2020 term and 366 existing students working towards a graduation date.
Following the closure announcement of CUP, the Oregon State Board of Nursing approved the transfer and academic control of the ABSN program over to CSP.
“Nurses are in high demand across the country, and we didn’t want this successful nursing program to fall by the wayside,” said Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, president of Concordia University, St. Paul. “As a Minnesota-based institution, we were elated to learn that our university met all of the accreditation and regulatory standards for the state of Oregon and could continue the program in Portland.”
Under Concordia University, St. Paul, the ABSN program will operate just as it has for the past four years. Everything from academic quality to nursing faculty to clinical placements remains intact. The ABSN program sites at 9600 SW Barnes Road and 11703 NE Glenn Widing Drive will also continue as usual.
The ABSN program has consistently maintained high student success rates, with 2019 graduates achieving a first-time pass rate of 92.31 percent on the National Council Licensure Examination. CSP expects the success to continue given that incoming students will receive the same personalized admissions and academic support as those who came before them.
